Louis Isadore Kahn (February 20, 1901 – March 17, 1974) practised as an architect in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and taught architecture there and at Yale University.

Life
Kahn was innate on the Estonian island of Saaremaa. Within 1905, his Jewish family immigrated to the United States, fearing that his father would be recalled into a war machine in a period of the Russo-Japanese War. He was raised inside Philadelphia and became a naturalized citizen on May 15, 1914.

He trained inside the rigorous Beaux-Arts traditiin, with its emphasis on drawing, at a University of Pennsylvania ("Penn"), after completing his Master's degree within 1924, Kahn made the European tour & settled in the mediaeval walled city of Carcassonne, rather than any of the fastness of classicism or modernism. Inside 1925–1926 the bowtie-sporting Kahn served as Chief Designer for the Sesquicentennial Exposition. From either 1947 he spent a decade teaching at Yale, in which his influence was predominate, so moved to Penn. His large learner include Moshe Safdie and Robert Venturi.
